BY-LAWS OF RETIRED FIREFIGHTERS OF TACOMA

ARTICLE I

Section 1. Name of this association shall be RETIRED FIREFIGHTERS OF TACOMA (County of Pierce, State of Washington).

ARTICLE II

Section 1. Any person receiving a pension from the Firefighters relief and pension fund of the State of Washington shall be eligible for membership in this association; also persons elected into the association.

ARTICLE III

Section 1. The object and purpose of this association is to create and establish a social and fraternal organization of retired firefighters, their widows and beneficiaries, for the mutual protection of their pension rights as granted them under the laws of the State of Washington.

ARTICLE VI

Section 1. The officers of this association shall consist of a President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Financial Secretary. These officers shall be nominated and elected annually in the month of November and installed in the month of January following.
Section 2. All officers shall hold office for the term of one year or until their successors are elected and qualified, unless removed sooner for cause, or cease to be active members of the association.
Section 3. The office of any officer who is absent for three consecutive meetings, unless excused, sick, or injured, shall be declared vacant. The vacancy shall be filled by a majority vote of the membership present at any regular meeting or a special meeting called for that purpose after vacancy of such office occurs, until the next regular election.

ARTICLE V

Section 1. The annual dues of the association shall be payable in advance, for which the Financial Secretary will issue a membership receipt showing the member is in good standing. Any member whose dues are six months in arrears shall be dropped from the roll.

ARTICLE VI

Section 1. The meetings shall be governed by Roberts Rules of Order and held on the first Wednesday of each month, except in the case where such date falls on a holiday. In that event it shall be moved up one week to the following Wednesday.
Section 2. Special meetings of the association may be held on the call of the President, or by a majority of the officers. Only the business for which the meeting has been called may be transacted at that meeting.
Section 3. Five members of the association shall constitute a quorum to transact business, and no expenditures of funds shall be made unless a majority of all members present at any meeting shall vote in favor of such expenditures.

ARTICLE VII

Section 1. President  It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings of the association, to sign all orders drawn on the treasury and all other papers requiring his signature; to appoint all committees except when such committees are named by motion from the floor.
Section 2. Vice President  The Vice President, in the absence of the President, shall perform the duties of the President. In the absence of the President and Vice President, the members shall elect a President pro tem.
Section 3. Recording Secretary  It shall be the duty or the Recording Secretary to keep the minutes of all meetings and give a report at each subsequent meeting. It shall also be the duty of the Recording Secretary to carry on such correspondence as directed by the association.
Section 4. Financial Secretary  It shall be the duty of the Financial Secretary to keep a list of all members of the association. The list shall show the date when each person became or ceased to be a member, showing the amount paid by the member to the association as dues, assessments, etc.; to receive and disburse all monies of the association; keep a checking account in the name of Retired Firefighters, checks to be endorsed by any two of the following: Financial Secretary, President, or Vice President.

ARTICLE VIII

Section 1. Auditing Committee  The Auditing Committee shall consist of three members whose duty shall be to audit the books of the association annually following the election of new officers or when ordered by the President or by motion from the floor.

ARTICLE IX

Section 1. Amendments  These by- laws may be emended when such amendments are reduced to writing and filed with the secretary, and shall be read at three regular meetings before a vote is taken for adoption or rejection of such proposed amendment or amendments.
Section 2. Amendments must receive a two-thirds majority vote of the membership present and in good standing at the meeting in which they are adopted.
